Dodgers sweep struggling Diamondbacks
Baseball Betting Lines
05/13/2010 -
Phoenix, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Hiroki Kuroda pitched into the eighth inning,
and Manny Ramirez smashed a three-run double, and the Los Angeles Dodgers
completed a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks with a 6-3 victory at Chase
Field.
Andre Ethier continued his hot hitting with a two-run homer, as the Dodgers
won for the ninth time in 12 games. The right fielder went 6-for-15 with five
RBI in the series.
Kuroda (4-1) allowed six hits and three runs -- two earned -- while fanning
nine over 7 1/3 innings. He returned to Chase Field for the first time since
being struck in the head by a Rusty Ryal line drive to lead off the sixth
inning last August 15. The Dodgers moved to 15-4 in Kuroda's last 19 games (18
starts).
"He was very economical pitch-count wise," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "It
looked like he had real good action on his pitches and was in pretty good
counts all day."
Adam LaRoche knocked in three runs for Arizona, which went 0-6 on its
homestand, having been outscored 52-15 against Milwaukee and Los Angeles. It
was the worst homestand for the Diamondbacks since losing all 11 games, July
15-25, 2004 against the Dodgers, Giants, Astros and Rockies.
Edwin Jackson (1-5) was charged with seven hits and six runs in 6 2/3 innings
and lost his fourth consecutive start. The right-hander had four walks and
eight strikeouts.
Ahead by just a run, the Dodgers extended the lead to 6-2 in the seventh.
Jamey Carroll walked to lead off, and one out later Russell Martin singled,
putting runners at the corners. Matt Kemp struck out, and Martin stole second
before Ethier was intentionally walked to fill the bases.
Ramirez came up next and was 1-for-12 lifetime against Jackson but doubled on
an 0-2 count off the wall in center field to clear the bases.
"It was a tough call, a difficult call, and obviously the way it turns out a
bad call," Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch said of the decision to walk Ethier
to get to Ramirez. "Unfortunately, we'll never know how it will play out if we
went the other way. Both are very capable of hurting you."
Arizona loaded the bases in the eighth but could only scrape out one run,
coming on LaRoche's sacrifice fly to center. Hong-Chih Kuo retired pinch-
hitter Ryal on a fly ball to center to end the inning.
Jonathan Broxton put two runners on base in the ninth but fanned Conor
Jackson to end the game and secure his fourth save of the season.
Kemp singled leading off the top of the fourth, and Ethier followed with a
homer to left-center, his 11th round-tripper of the season. LaRoche tied it in
the bottom half with a two-run double down the right field line.
The Dodgers went ahead 3-2 in the next inning. Carroll walked, stole second
and scored on Kemp's two-out single to left field.
Game Notes
Earlier in the day, the Diamondbacks recalled right- handed reliever Carlos
Rosa from Reno and optioned reliever Daniel Stange to their Triple-A
affiliate...The Dodgers are 5-1 this season against the Diamondbacks and have
captured eight of the last 10 meetings...Arizona went 1-for-8 with runners in
scoring position...Martin has an eight-game hitting streak.
