Former VMI football coach Thalman, 89, passes

Lexington, VA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former VMI football coach Bob Thalman died at
age 89 on Tuesday in Atlanta from the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
Thalman was VMI's longest-tenured head coach, compiling a 54-93-3 record in 14
seasons from 1971-84.
A Wheeling, W.Va., native, Thalman led VMI to Southern Conference titles in
1974 and 1977. The Keydets haven't won a SoCon crown since then and his 6-3
squad in 1981 is their most recent winning squad.
Thalman also coached at Hampden-Sydney, North Carolina and Georgia Tech during
a 38-year career.
He is survived by Mary Thalman, his wife of 62 years, four children and
10 grandchildren.
The Roanoke Times first reported Thalman's passing on Friday.

Mayweather picked to beat De La Hoya
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya and his rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. arrived at the MGM Grand here Wednesday amid the pomp and pandemonium befitting two of the biggest stars in the sport who are about to duke it out for the WBC super welterweight crown this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

But Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao said in a recent interview with The Freeman's Emmanuel Villaruel that De La Hoya will win by unanimous decision over Mayweather.
