Lions, Jaguars lose OTAs

06/17/2010 - Allen Park, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars have been forced by the league to cancel organized team activities because of violations in rules governing offseason workouts.

A joint statement from the NFL and NFL Players Association said it was determined the Lions violated rules pertaining to the intensity and tempo of drills conducted on one of the team's organized team activity (OTA) days.

Because of that, the statement said, the Lions will forfeit OTA days scheduled for June 21 and 22. Detroit players will not be permitted to be at the practice facility on those days but will be paid for the sessions. The sessions cannot be re-scheduled, while Detroit's mandatory mini-camp, set for June 23-25, will continue as scheduled.

"We will comply with the League's directive and we will continue to respect and emphasize the NFL's rules and regulations regarding the off-season training program," said a statement from Lions general manager Martin Mayhew.

The Jaguars forfeited a week of their offseason program (June 21-25), losing OTAs scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday, because of the same reason. Jacksonville players can return to the team facility after the OTA suspension, while the Jaguars' first training camp practice is set for July 30.

Earlier this month, the Baltimore Ravens canceled their final week of OTAs after learning of similar violations.
