Timberwolves shoot for rare win in Atlanta
Basketball Betting Lines
02/24/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Minnesota Timberwolves were able to pick up a rare road
victory last night, but making it two in a row might present a problem given
the location of tonight's contest.
Minnesota will try to snap a seven-game series losing streak to the Atlanta Hawks tonight, while also trying to post their first win in Atlanta in over
seven years in Wednesday's matchup at Philips Arena.
The Timberwolves haven't beaten Atlanta as the road team since November 20,
2002 and haven't captured any type of victory over the Hawks since April 9,
2006 in Minnesota. Atlanta is averaging 100.4 points per game over its current
series winning streak and posted a 112-87 triumph when the clubs met in
Minnesota on December 22 of this season.
However, the Timberwolves are coming off a 91-88 victory over a Dwyane Wade-
less Heat club last night. The victory snapped a six-game overall losing
streak for Minnesota and was just the club's second win in its last 14 road
games. The 'Wolves are 5-24 overall on the road this season.
Jonny Flynn netted 16 points and Kevin Lowe added 17 points and 12 rebounds
for Minnesota. Lowe had 15 points and 19 rebounds in the loss to Atlanta
earlier this season, while Flynn scored 16.
"It was just a great game," Flynn said of last night's victory. "It was a good
win for us. Coming off of six straight losses it's always good to get a win,
especially in a season where we are not getting a lot of wins. Every win is
good for us."
Atlanta does know a little something about ending lengthy losing streaks, as
its 105-100 victory over Utah on Monday was its first at Salt Lake City since
February 13, 1993. The Hawks had dropped 15 straight in Utah before Monday's
win.
Joe Johnson led the way with 28 points, six rebounds and six assists, while
Josh Smith contributed 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists in helping
Atlanta earn a split of its four-game road trip.
"It felt great. It's been a long time since the Hawks have won in this
building and get outside of a losing streak," Johnson said. "It's always great
to get a win, but I thought we were very composed tonight, and in the fourth
quarter when we did get down we were able to not get rattled and make a run of
our own and kind of close the game out."
Jamal Crawford donated 17 points off the bench Monday night. He scored 26 in a
reserve role back in December versus Minnesota, while Johnson added 21 points
in that victory.
Atlanta is fourth overall in the Eastern Conference and two games back of
Orlando for first place in the Southeast Division. The Hawks have also won
nine of their last 11 at home, where they play their next three games.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP
With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.
There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.

Kansas City, MO - Kansas City has not officially named Matt Cassel its starting quarterback, but there can be no doubt now.
NFL Betting
After praising his leadership and work ethic through spring workouts, the Chiefs announced Tuesday they had signed the 27-year-old Cassel to a multiyear contract. Terms were not disclosed, but he will almost certainly be one of the highest-paid members of the team.
"We are excited to be able to reach a long-term agreement for Matt Cassel to be a Kansas City Chief for many years to come," owner and board chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. "His proven leadership on and off the field will be a tremendous asset to the organization."
Patriots made him their franchise player, meaning his salary for this season will be about $15 million.
New head coach Todd Haley, taking over for Herm Edwards after a 2-14 season, refused to name a starter at any position during offseason workouts. But it was obvious to everyone the team belonged to Cassel.
"I go out there each and every day with that focus that I'm the starter," Cassel said during a June minicamp. "Competition brings out the best in everybody."
The signing will come as welcome news to Cassel's new coaches and teammates. Amiable and hardworking, online football betting he appeared to win over everyone at minicamp.
"I think he's got some unique leadership qualities. I think his teammates like him and have respect for him. I think he's doing a pretty good job on the field, too," Haley said last month. "He's doing everything that I'm asking him, that our coaches are asking him to do. I don't have one single complaint how he's carrying himself."
After one workout, wide receiver Devard Darling declared Cassel "a breath of fresh air."
"He has a lot of swagger, a lot of confidence. It's good for us," said Darling. "We trust in him that he's going to go out there and lead us all the way."
nse to accommodate his specific abilities.
Trapped on the bench behind Heisman winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC and then unable to unseat Super Bowl MVP Brady at New England, Cassel seemed destined to be a backup all his life. As Brady was helped off the field last September, Cassel seized the opportunity he'd been waiting for since high school.
In his only sustained action since his teens, he hit 349 of 555 passes for 3,949 yards at New England. He had 23 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions as the Patriots, who had gone unbeaten through the regular season the year before, finished 11-5 and out of the playoffs.
Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, who had been Bill Belichick's assistant in New England, engineered the trade after the Patriots became convinced that Brady would recover fully from his knee operation.
"Since Matt arrived in Kansas City, he has embraced the team and the community," Pioli said. "His work ethic, his ability and competitive presence is what we expect from our players."
